The harp is not as difficult as many people think - the strings of the harp are the same as the white keys of the
piano, that is, they're tuned in a C scale. C is red, and F is blue. If you've played piano before, you can see
the resemblance to the keyboard in the pattern of the strings. Like the piano, you use both hands, but only the
thumb and first 3 fingers. You don't use the pinky. The left hand plays the bass, or bottom of the harp, and the
right hand plays the treble, or top of the harp.
Simple music sounds just beautiful on the harp - that's one of the reasons that I think it is so much fun to play,
even while you're learning. Each string you pluck rings, it's so rewarding and relaxing. It's great to have a
harp teacher, and we can put you in touch with one in your area if we know of someone. If one is not available,
Pamela has released a DVD and books designed to allow you to learn to play the harp on your own, in your own home!
This DVD and book combination give you clear, step-by-step directions
that will have you playing beautiful music on the harp. And there is even a section on learning to read music, so even if you don't have a musical background,
you can still learn!
